NORMAN – Six Sooners scored in double figures as Oklahoma women's basketball wrapped up its preseason with a 114-47 exhibition win over Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday at Lloyd Noble Center.
The 10th-ranked Sooners shot 58% from the field, 50% from beyond the arc, tallied 31 assists and out-rebounded the Eagles 56-27.
"We did a lot of good things tonight," head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "We had big contributions from lots of different players, and I'm proud of how we shared the ball. There's still plenty to work on, but overall, I'm pleased with our effort tonight."
Sahara Williams led OU with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds and four assists. Payton Verhulst and Skylar Vann each scored 16 points, while junior Kiersten Johnson added 16 on 7-of-8 shooting off the bench. Preseason All-American Raegan Beers notched a double-double with 12 points (5-of-7) and 15 rebounds with three blocks in 19 minutes. Aubrey Joens added 12 points in the fourth quarter, helping finish the 67-point win. In her debut, Zya Vann posted a team-high five assists while Liz Scott returned to the floor, adding six points and eight boards.
The Sooners set the tone early, scoring on the first possession after Beers won the tip and finished with a contested layup just nine seconds into the game. OU built on that fast start with an 18-0 run in the first quarter, establishing a 24-9 lead. By halftime, a 28-11 second-quarter advantage had extended Oklahoma's lead to 52-20. Continuing their strong offensive play, Baranczyk's team used a 21-4 run in the third to secure a comfortable lead heading into the final frame. The Sooners closed out the game by shooting 75% (12-of-16) in the fourth quarter, completing the exhibition win.
The Sooners tallied 60 points in the paint, supplemented by 13 three-pointers. With 31 assists on 45 made shots, Oklahoma committed just 11 turnovers and added 14 steals.
