COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams concluded the regular season Friday morning at the Arturo Barrios Invitational where both squads finished sixth overall. Grabbing two top-ten finishes for the Sooners, freshmen
Leah Jeruto earned second in the women's 6K and
Thobias Cheruiyot placed sixth in the men's 8K.
The Oklahoma men recorded 216 points in a field of 38 teams, 21 of which were ranked regionally. The women posted a score of 245 against 41 teams, including No. 18 Gonzaga from the USTFCCCA national coaches' poll and 18 more regionally ranked teams.
Jeruto's 19:00.1 finish was only 1.9 seconds slower than the Watts Cross Country Course record set by 2023 NCAA Champion Parker Valby in 2022. Graduate transfer
Megan Johnson was the Sooners' next-best finisher on the women's side, securing 35th and a career-best time of 20:14.3. Senior
Gabi Barrera followed in 48th with another PR of 20:25.6. Eight more Sooner women collected personal-best times.
Cheruiyot shaved 28 seconds off the PR he set at the Joe Piane Invitational two weeks ago for a 22:34.4 time. OU collected seven more career records on the men's side, including senior
Colin Caso who finished 22nd (23:24.7) and fifth-year runner
Fernando Morales, who placed 23rd (23:44.0).
