Sooners to Host Big Ten/SEC Challenge

NORMAN - Oklahoma volleyball makes its 2026 home debut this week as the Sooners welcome Ohio State and Washington to McCasland Field House for the Big Ten/SEC Challenge. OU will face the Buckeyes Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. before taking on the Huskies Friday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m.

The Sooners return to Norman with a 2-0 record after sweeping Texas State and Louisiana at the Texas State Invitational on opening weekend. Oklahoma and Ole Miss will represent the SEC in Norman, while Ohio State and Washington make up the Big Ten contingent. All matches will air on SEC Network+.

OPENING WEEKEND SWEEP
The Sooners opened the 2026 campaign with back-to-back sweeps at the Texas State Invitational, defeating host Texas State 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 before taking down Louisiana 25-14, 25-19, 27-25. OU hit .406 with 40 kills in the season opener and followed with 42 kills on a .307 clip against the Ragin' Cajuns. Through six sets, Oklahoma is hitting .350 while averaging 13.67 kills, 12.00 assists and 2.67 service aces per set.

MADE THEIR MARK
Tekoa Barnes and Alaleh Tolliver were named to the Texas State Invitational All-Tournament Team after helping the Sooners to a pair of sweeps on opening weekend. Barnes totaled 17 kills and six service aces across the two matches, opening the season with 10 kills on a .350 hitting percentage against Texas State before recording a career-high five aces against Louisiana. Tolliver made an immediate impact in her first weekend in crimson and cream, recording 21 kills across six sets, highlighted by a match-high 14 kills in Saturday's win over Louisiana.

THE RIGHT MOVE
Sophomore Tekoa Barnes made an immediate impact in a new role on opening weekend after transitioning from the outside to the right side during the spring. Barnes started both matches at opposite and finished the weekend with 17 kills, six service aces and a .333 hitting percentage. She opened the season with 10 kills while hitting .350 against Texas State before adding seven kills, a career-high eight digs and a career-best five aces against Louisiana.

ACE UP THEIR SLEEVE
The Sooners applied pressure from the service line throughout opening weekend, recording eight aces in each of their first two matches. OU's 16 aces through six sets are good for an average of 2.67 per set, with Tekoa Barnes leading the way with six. Alaleh Tolliver recorded four aces in her Oklahoma debut against Texas State, while Kinsley Singleton added three in the sweep of Louisiana.

FAMILIAR FACES
Friday's matchup with Washington will reunite Oklahoma middle blocker Elise Hani with her former program after spending four seasons with the Huskies. Hani made an immediate impact in her first weekend as a Sooner, totaling 15 kills and six blocks across the two matches. She hit .636 with eight kills on 11 swings in the season-opening victory over Texas State before adding seven kills and a team-high four blocks against Louisiana.

CONFERENCES COLLIDE
McCasland Field House is one of the host sites for the inaugural Big Ten/SEC Challenge, which features all 16 SEC volleyball programs and all 18 Big Ten programs in crossover competition. Oklahoma and Ole Miss represent the SEC in Norman alongside Ohio State and Washington. The four-match slate begins Wednesday with Ole Miss against Ohio State, followed by Ole Miss and Washington on Thursday afternoon. OU will face Ohio State Thursday night before closing out the Norman portion of the Challenge against Washington Friday afternoon.

THE OPPOSITION
OHIO STATE:
The Buckeyes enter the week at 2-1 after hosting the Jim Stone Challenge to open the season. Ohio State fell to Bowling Green in four sets in its opener before responding with a sweep of Fresno State and a four-set victory over Northern Kentucky. Naomy Govou closed the weekend with a career-high 20 kills against Northern Kentucky, while Hannah Jones added 14 as four Buckeyes reached double figures. Setter Mia Tuman recorded 48 assists and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season in the win. Ohio State will face Ole Miss Wednesday before meeting the Sooners Thursday night.

WASHINGTON: The Huskies arrive in Norman with a 3-0 record after capturing the Husky Invitational with wins over UC Irvine (3-1), San Diego State (3-0) and IU Indianapolis (3-2). Freshman Kylie Kleckner was named tournament MVP and Big Ten Freshman of the Week after her first weekend of collegiate action, while Maija Howse earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging 1.50 blocks per set. Simona Mateska also earned all-tournament honors for the Huskies. Washington will face Ole Miss Thursday before taking on the Sooners Friday.

SERIES HISTORY
OHIO STATE:
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 3-1. The two teams last played in 1993, with Ohio State winning 3-1 at home. Oklahoma won its only game over Ohio State in 1980, coming out on top in five sets.

WASHINGTON: Washington has won all three matchups between the two teams. The Huskies last defeated Oklahoma 3-0 in 2017.Ā 

LOOKING AHEAD
Following the Big Ten/SEC Challenge, Oklahoma heads back on the road for a Tuesday night matchup at Georgia Tech on Sept. 8. The contest is part of the SEC/ACC Showdown at the Net and will mark the Sooners' first nationally televised match of the season with first serve set for 8 p.m. CT on ACC Network.
