NORMAN — University of Oklahoma Vice President and Director of Athletics
Roger Denny and Head Women's Basketball Coach
Jennie Baranczyk announced the hiring of Jared Boyd as the first general manager in Oklahoma women's basketball history on Thursday.
Boyd arrives in Norman after serving as the women's basketball general manager at Texas Tech during the 2025-26 season, following five years as the program's chief of staff. He boasts more than a decade of experience in basketball operations, administration and personnel strategy.
As OU Women's Basketball's general manager, Boyd's responsibilities will include:
- Roster management, player acquisition and alignment with the head coach's vision
- Player valuation, analytics and market intelligence
- NIL and revenue-sharing strategy
- Recruiting operations and relationship management
- Player retention, experience and professional pathways
- Governance, compliance and risk management
Boyd played a key role in constructing Texas Tech's 2025-26 roster, utilizing the transfer portal to help the Lady Raiders to a 25-7 record, including a program-best 19-0 start and an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance. He also led the program's NIL allocation strategy and developed an innovative, centralized player personnel system dubbed "Command Center" to streamline recruiting and evaluation processes.
Prior to his general manager role, Boyd served as Texas Tech's chief of staff, overseeing basketball operations, including travel logistics, fundraising, NIL strategy and recruiting operations.
During his six seasons in Lubbock, Boyd helped the Lady Raiders to 109 victories and three postseason appearances. In 2025-26, Texas Tech won its first NCAA Tournament game since 2005 and recorded its best Big 12 finish since 2013, tying for fourth. Boyd also played a significant role in retaining and building one of the nation's most experienced rosters.
Before joining Texas Tech's program, Boyd spent the 2017-18 through 2019-20 seasons at UT Arlington as the women's basketball director of operations. The Mavs won a conference championship and posted 63 victories during the three-year stretch.
Boyd earned his bachelor's degree in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M in 2012 and completed his master's degree in sport management at Texas Tech in 2015.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
OU VICE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS ROGER DENNNY:
"As we continue to invest in our women's basketball program, it's essential we evolve the way we operate to position our team for championship-level competition. That includes strengthening the structure around our team. Adding a general manager is a key part of that vision.
"Jared has been an integral part of a successful program. His understanding of roster management, organizational strategy and player support will be instrumental as we move forward. We're excited to welcome Jared and his family and believe his impact will be felt immediately across our program."
OU HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH JENNIE BARANCZYK:
"We're so excited to welcome Jared to our Oklahoma women's basketball family. He has great experience building elite rosters and understands how important every part of that work is, from recruiting operations to building real relationships with players and helping retain the right people in your program. He is incredibly respected in the industry, connected and aligned with who we are and what we want Oklahoma women's basketball to be.
"Sustained success in today's game requires you to be innovative and intentional, not just in what you do but who you do it with, and that's exactly what excites me about this move for our program. He brings structure, clarity and consistency to an area that is more important than ever in college athletics. Roster building takes vision, organization and trust, and he has shown the ability to do that at a high level. Just as important, he understands the value of relationships and retention in building something that lasts.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the support around our program and excited about the impact Jared will have on our staff and players. He's going to make us better every single day."
