NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team is No. 1 in the Week 9 rankings with a 325.700 four-score average after posting the highest team score in the nation this season (331.600) in a win over No. 8 California (315.700) on Saturday at McCasland Field House.
The Sooners rank ahead of No. 2 Stanford (321.583) while No. 3 Nebraska (319.083), No. 4 Michigan (318.333) and No. 5 Ohio State (317.350) round out the top five. Teams are ranked this week based on four-score averages. Teams' four-score averages are determined by taking their four highest scores, two of which must be from away meets, dropping the highest score and averaging the remaining three.
OU holds first place on pommel horse (54.933), still rings (53.667) and high bar (53.417) and ranks second on floor exercise (53.967), vault (55.550) and parallel bars (53.867).
Oklahoma has two gymnasts ranked No. 1 on individual events, with freshman Nathan Roman atop the parallel bars rankings (14.033) and senior Kelton Christiansen leading on high bar (14.033).
Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk ranks sixth on floor exercise (13.767) and redshirt senior Fuzzy Benas ranks 10th (13.683). Sophomore Colby Aranda ranks second on pommel horse (14.167) and senior Ignacio Yockers sits sixth (14.067).
Sophomore Francisco Velez Belendez ranks second on still rings (13.867) and junior Tas Hajdu is seventh (13.650). Bogonosiuk ranks second on vault (14.267), while Benas ranks ninth (14.050).
Bogonosiuk ranks ninth on parallel bars (13.483), and redshirt junior Brandon Zepeda-Orth ranks fourth on high bar (13.717).
Oklahoma will take a week off from competition, before heading to Berkely, Calif., for a rematch with California. It is the regular season finale and will take place on March 21 at 6 p.m. CT.
