Bogonosiuk, Williams Earns MPSF Awards

March 26, 2026 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics newcomer Sasha Bogonosiuk was named the MPSF Freshman of the Year and head coach Mark Williams was named conference Coach of the Year, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Thursday.

This is Williams' third straight and 17th MPSF Coach of the Year award in his 27 seasons at the helm. Bogonosiuk is the third straight Sooner and third overall to claim the MPSF's Freshman of the Year honor (following Nico Hamilton in 2024 and Francisco Velez Belendez in 2025).

Bogonosiuk is the only freshman to rank among the top 8 nationally on two events: vault (fourth; 14.267) and floor exercise (eighth; 13.767). He also ranks 15th on parallel bars (13.483) and is the only freshman in the nation ranked in the top 15 across three events. He is also the only freshman in the country to score 14.000 or better on vault four times. Bogonosiuk's season-high 14.550 (Feb. 28 vs. No. 3 Nebraska) is tied for the second-highest vault score in the nation this season. On floor exercise, he has scored 13.650 or higher in five meets. He earned a silver medal on vault at the 2026 Winter Cup, securing a spot on the 2026 USA Senior Development Team. He has won two individual vault titles this season, on Feb. 7 against Ohio State/Air Force (14.550) and Feb. 28 versus Nebraska (14.450). Bogonosiuk has been named CGA Rookie of the Week twice (Jan. 22, Mar. 4) and MPSF Freshman of the Week twice (Jan. 20, Mar. 4).

Williams has guided the Sooners to a No. 1 national ranking through the regular season with a four-score average of 326.833. OU also ranks first in the NCAA on pommel horse (55.783) and still rings (53.950), as well as second nationally on vault (55.867), parallel bars (54.317), and high bar (53.417), and fifth on floor (54.017). OU was one of just two teams in the nation to break 330.000 in a meet this year, accumulating an NCAA season-best 331.600 in the home finale against No. 8 California, the last of three consecutive weeks of NCAA season-high totals for the Sooners (328.650, 331.300, 331.600). Oklahoma's still rings team also set an NCAA-high in its final home meet with 56.000, and recorded a national-best 56.100 on high bar on Feb. 28 against No. 3 Nebraska. The Sooners claimed 13 of the possible 30 MPSF weekly awards this year (and 12 of the last 21).
