HOW IT HAPPENED
Forsythe snapped an OU string of six consecutive misses from 3-point range with a transition three at the 12:54 mark to give the Sooners a 9-4 lead. OU used stifling defense to put together a 13-1 run over a span of 5:13 to extend the lead to 19-5 at the under eight media timeout.
Ā
Edwards hit his third 3-pointer of the half to give the Sooners their largest lead at 36-16 with 1:10 remaining. Mississippi Valley State hit a pair of threes late in the half to enter the break trailing 38-22. Reid and Edwards combined for 17 of the Sooners 19 points over the final 6:29 of the first half.
Ā
Mississippi Valley State scored the first six points of the second half to trim the deficit but could not get any closer as Oklahoma responded and pushed the lead back to 20 with an 11-4 run that included 3-pointers by Khani Rooths, Isaacs and Wadley. Wadley'sĀ 3-point field goal with 8:44 remaining gave the Sooners a 58-38 advantage.
Ā
OU continued to stretch the lead with Rooths' dunk off a feed from Wadley capped a 19-4 run that extended the margin to 79-47 with 2:31 remaining. Yaak Yaak scored his first career points as a Sooner on a dunk with 1:28 remaining before MVSU scored the final six points for an 84-57 final.
