NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Wednesday that the groundbreaking and ceremony for Project 2 of the Kimrey Family Stadium Project will be held this Friday (Oct. 16) at 4:30 p.m. on the southwest lawn inside Kimrey Family Stadium.

Parking and seating for the free, public event will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to Lloyd Noble Center RV parking for Saturday's football game, parking for the baseball groundbreaking will be available across the street in the northeast quadrant of the LNC lot. Attendees can walk west on Imhoff Road to the main gate of Kimrey Family Stadium to enter. The main gate will open at 4 p.m.

The program will celebrate and preview the next chapter of Oklahoma Baseball with remarks from University President Joseph Harroz Jr., Vice President and Director of Athletics Roger Denny, Head Coach Skip Johnson and junior second baseman Kyle Branch. The groundbreaking marks the launch of the second phase of the Kimrey Family Stadium project.

DETAILS

Friday, October 16 | 4:30-5:15 p.m. CT
The program will take place outside, on the lawn in the southwest corner of Kimrey Family Stadium.

Project 2 will bring significant expansion and improvements to team facilities, upgrades to the seating bowl and new fan amenities, including new concessions, restrooms and a dedicated fan plaza. A major highlight of Project 2 includes the recently announced Toby Keith Family Performance Center, a state-of-the-art indoor performance facility that will provide student-athletes with premier resources for player development, training, sports performance and related team activities.

Named in honor of Oklahoma icon Toby Keith and thanks to a significant philanthropic commitment to the OU baseball program from the Covel family of Norman, Okla., the Toby Keith Family Performance Center is part of a comprehensive $49 million renovation and expansion of Kimrey Family Stadium.

The student-athlete areas of Kimrey Family Stadium, including the Toby Keith Family Performance Center, are scheduled for completion in spring 2028. Project 1 was completed prior to the 2026 season and delivered a series of enhancements that include updates to the outfield wall, batter's eye, bullpens, exterior fence and spectator areas beyond the outfield wall.

No state-appropriated funds or funds from student tuition or fees will be used to subsidize the project.

The Kimrey Family Stadium project is being made possible through the generosity of donors whose investments are helping build the future of Oklahoma Baseball. Gifts of all sizes advance this transformational project.
