Women's Tennis to Host NCAA Opening Rounds

April 28, 2025 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 NCAA Championship and will host first and second round matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center, the NCAA announced Monday.

OU will open tournament play against Denver on Friday, May 2. The other first-round matchup will feature Oklahoma State and Tulsa, with the winners meeting in the second round on Saturday, May 3. The winner of that match will advance to the super regionals the following weekend.

The No. 6 seed is the second highest in program history for the Sooners, who are making their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth under head coach Audra Cohen. It also marks the fifth time Oklahoma has hosted first and second round matches and the first time the program has reached the tournament in five consecutive seasons. OU has advanced to at least the second round in each of the past three years.

"It's an honor to host and welcome some of the best teams in the country to our home courts," Cohen said. "We've worked really hard through a tough SEC season to earn this opportunity. We're battle-tested and ready for a tough NCAA Tournament."

Tickets are now on sale for the two-day regional. Daily general admission is $5. University of Oklahoma students are admitted free with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 800-456-GoOU or visiting SoonerSports.com.

In its inaugural SEC season, Oklahoma posted a 19-6 overall record and finished 11-4 in conference play, reaching the semifinals of the SEC Championship as the No. 3 seed.

The 64-team NCAA field includes 31 automatic qualifiers and 33 at-large bids. As one of the tournament's top eight seeds, Oklahoma is also in line to host a Super Regional match. The final eight teams will compete for the national title May 15-18 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
