NORMAN -- Two student-athletes from the Oklahoma men's tennis team were given All-SEC honors, the conference announced Thursday.
Junior
Luis Alvarez and freshman
Oscar Lacides were named second team All-SEC honorees and LacidesĀ earned and All-Freshman Team nod.
Alvarez has been a consistent competitor for the Sooners throughout the 2024-25 season, tallying a 14-4 record in the spring season that included nine SEC victories. Alvarez is undefeated (4-0) at the four singles line, has a 6-2 record at the three singles position, has picked up three wins on court two and has claimed a victory when playing at the primary position. The Mexico native has picked up two ranked wins on the season, including a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win over Georgia's then-No. 25 Thomas Paulsell. Alvarez clinched back-to-back road wins for the Sooners against Ole Miss (4-3) and Alabama (4-3), both of which went into third-set tie breaks, seeing Alvarez as the winner and later earning him his first SEC Player of the Week honor (April 2). The junior held an eight-match win streak in conference play, providing the Sooners eight points in SEC competitions. After beginning the season with a No. 62 singles ranking, Alvarez broke back into the top-100 on April 1, sitting at the No. 87 spot.
Lacides has notched ten wins in his freshman campaign and earned an SEC Freshman of the Week honor following a win over Georgia's then-No. 31 Miguel Perez Pena, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(3) to clinch the Sooner win over the Bulldogs. Lacides also claimed a win over Texas A&M's then-No. 37 JC Roddick, 6-4, 7-5. The freshman has primarily competed at the primary singles position, tallying eight wins there throughout the season. Bruno Nhavene began the season in the ITA doubles rankings and broke into the top 25 on April 1. The duo went on to claim a win over Texas's then-No. 6 duo Timo Legout and Lucas Brown, 6-3, and topped Kentucky's then-No. 18 Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson, 6-4. In the most recent ITA doubles rankings, Lacides and Nhavene earned their highest rank of the season at No. 10.
