Trio of Sooners Awarded All-SEC Honors

NORMAN – Three members of the Oklahoma women's tennis team received All-SEC honors, the conference announced Wednesday.

Alina Shcherbinina and Julia Garcia Ruiz were named to the All-SEC second team, while Salakthip Ounmuang was selected to the All-Freshman Team.

Shcherbinina, a senior from Moscow, Russia, has played at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles for the Sooners this season. A 2024 doubles All-American, she recorded nine wins in both singles and doubles during the spring and led the team with eight combined ranked victories. She reached a season-high ranking of No. 26 in singles and No. 28 in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Garcia Ruiz, a junior from Morelia, Mexico, has anchored the Sooners at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She has posted seven singles and nine doubles wins this spring and is currently on a five-match win streak heading into the NCAA tournament. A two-time singles All-American, Garcia Ruiz reached a season-best singles ranking of No. 41 and climbed as high as No. 12 in doubles. She went unbeaten in April, outscoring her opponents 64–26 over her final five regular-season matches.

Ounmuang, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, made an immediate impact in her first season with the Sooners. She compiled a 12–7 record in both singles and doubles play, including an 8–4 mark in SEC singles matches. Primarily competing at No. 3 singles and rotating between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, she recorded four combined ranked wins. Ounmuang peaked at No. 103 in singles and No. 41 in doubles in the ITA rankings. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26.
