QUERETARO, Mexico – Oklahoma wrestling's John Wiley claimed gold in the 70 kg freestyle division at the U23 Pan-American Championships on Saturday, going 4-0 while representing the United States.
Wiley capped his dominant run with a win over Canada's Cole Coghill in the finals at Auditorio General José María Arteaga. The Mustang, Okla., native outscored his opponents 41-1 across four technical falls and secured an automatic berth to the Junior Pan American Games in August in Asunción, Paraguay.
Team USA dominated the tournament, winning eight of 10 weight classes and finishing with a 33-2 record. The Americans collected eight wins by technical fall, eight by fall and five by decision, racking up 205 points to claim the team title — 73 points ahead of runner-up Canada. Cuba finished third among 20 nations that scored points.
Wiley, a redshirt junior, earned a spot on the U.S. roster following his performance at the 2024 U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania, where he went 1-1 in freestyle at 70 kg.
