NORMAN – Oklahoma center
Raegan Beers solidified her place among the nation's top players, earning Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association All-America honors for the second consecutive year, the organizations announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 junior has been a key contributor for the No. 11 Sooners, leading the team in scoring (17.5 ppg), rebounding (8.9 rpg) and blocks (1.1 bpg) while ranking fourth nationally in field goal percentage (66.0%). She was selected as an honorable mention by both groups, and received the most votes among players that earned an honorable mention nod from the AP.
A first-team All-SEC selection and finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award, Beers has recorded 12 double-doubles this season, the most by a Sooner since Joanna McFarland had 14 in 2012-13. She became the first SEC player in more than 25 years to average at least 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and shoot 65% from the field while playing fewer than 23.0 minutes per game in the regular season.
Beers leads the SEC in player efficiency rating (36.7, 7
th NCAA) and is the only player in the country averaging 31.0 points and 16.0 rebounds per 40 minutes. She has delivered in high-profile matchups, averaging 17.6 points on 65% shooting, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks per game in 13 contests against teams ranked or receiving votes in the AP Top 25.
She posted 12 games with 20+ points, and two where she scored 30. She was named USBWA National Player of the Week after posting 30 points in back-to-back games against Vanderbilt and Arkansas as she shot 85.2% from the field in those games, becoming the first Sooner since Courtney Paris to post consecutive 30-point games. She reached double-figure scoring in 26 of her 30 games played this season and grabbed seven or more rebounds 25 times.
After not producting an All-America honoree from 2014-21, Oklahoma has produced at least one honoree in each of head coach
Jennie Baranczyk's first four seasons. Beers joins
Skylar Vann, Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson as
AP All-America honorees under the fourth-year head coach.
A third-team AP All-American last season, Beers is now a two-time All-America honoree. She leads No. 3 seed Oklahoma (25-7) into the NCAA Tournament, where the Sooners will host No. 14 seed FGCU at Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
