NORMAN – Oklahoma's
Mosha Schwartz has earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. It is the second Big 12 weekly accolade for the senior from Franktown, Colo., who first won the award as a true freshman in 2019 while wrestling for Northern Colorado.
Schwartz matched up with No. 14 Josh Edmond in the most anticipated bout of Oklahoma's dual against Missouri on Saturday. A rematch of last season's sudden-victory thriller in Colombia which saw Schwartz come out on top, the pair of 2024 NCAA qualifiers provided fireworks once again in Norman. A tightly contested match from whistle-to-whistle, Edmond held a 4-3 lead with 14 seconds left in the contest as the pair of Big 12 foes met in the middle of the mat in neutral position. Schwartz worked quick off the whistle, landing a takedown with two seconds remaining to secure the electrifying 6-4 win. The 141-pounder has knocked off consecutive top-15 opponents, and is seeking a fourth career trip to the NCAA Wrestling Championship in March.
This marks the 54th time that an Oklahoma wrestler has won a weekly Big 12 honor. Schwartz, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, becomes the second Sooner to win the award this season after
Antonio Lorenzo took home the accolade on Nov. 27.
Schwartz and the Sooners return to the mat on Sunday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State at Mullett Arena.
