NORMAN – The NCAA released its second set of coaches' rankings and the first Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday. Eight Sooners were included in the coaches' rankings, with four slotted inside the top 20, while seven were featured in the RPI.
Antonio Lorenzo (No. 26 – 18 RPI at 125), Cleveland Belton (No. 24 – 14 RPI at 133), Mosha Schwartz (No. 15 – NR at 141), Willie McDougald (No. 15 – 19 RPI at 149), Tate Picklo (No. 33 – 21 RPI at 165), Gaven Sax (No. 14 – NR at 174), DJ Parker (No. 20 – 10 RPI at 184), Bradley Hill (NR – 32 RPI at 197) and Juan Mora (No. 31 – 22 RPI at 285) represent Oklahoma in the latest release.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered with at least one within the last 30 days.
The RPI is a calculation that consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
Sax continues to lead the Sooner contingent with a 14th-place showing in the 174-pound coaches' rankings. A senior from St. Robert, Mo., and a former NCAA qualifier at North Dakota State, Sax has compiled a 10-3 record so far this season which includes six bonus point victories.
OU third-year starter Willie McDougald, who leads the team with 15 wins and an 8-2 dual record, is the longest tenured Sooner featured in the rankings. McDougald, a two-time NCAA qualifier, has three wins against wrestlers ranked inside the top 30 at 149 pounds.
The coaches' ranking and RPI are two of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
The next set of coaches' and RPI rankings are slated to be released on Feb. 27. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will be held March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia as the event returns for the first time since 2011.
