Women's Hoops Sets Program Scoring Record in Historic Win

December 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Zya Vann had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 8 Oklahoma set a record for points with a 126-54 win over North Carolina Central on Monday in it final non-conference game of the regular season.

Aaliyah Chavez had 20 points, Sahara Williams scored 16 and Raegan Beers had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma (12-1), which won its 11th straight game and reached the 100-point mark for the sixth time during that streak.

Eight players reached double figures for Oklahoma, including Keziah Lofton, a freshman whose layup with 1:27 left gave the Sooners a 123-52 lead and broke the mark for points in a game set last season when the Sooners beat Western Carolina 122-56. Lofton finished with 15 points.

Oklahoma held North Carolina Central of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to 23% shooting and converted 29 turnovers into 36 points.

Aniya Finger scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (2-10), who made 15 of 64 shots and got out rebounded 60-35.

Chavez scored 15 points in the first half, and her 3-pointer as time expired gave the Sooners a 67-29 lead and drew cheers from the crowd celebrating the '6-7' craze.

The Sooners open SEC play on Jan. 1 when they travel to College Station to face Texas A&M at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.

POSTGAME NOTES

• Oklahoma (12-1) set a program record for points in a single game in a 126-54 win over North Carolina Central on Monday afternoon in its non-conference finale. The Sooners have won 11 straight games, the second-longest winning streak in program history, and secured OU's 16th unbeaten month all-time by going 5-0 in December for the second consecutive year.

• The 72-point win marked OU's second-largest margin of victory in Lloyd Noble Center history. Oklahoma's 12-1 record matches the best 13-game start in program history, tying four other Sooner squads, including three under Baranczyk.

• The Sooners scored a school record 40 points in the second quarter en route to a program-best 126 points, breaking the previous record of 122 set last season against Western Carolina. OU has now scored 100 points six times in 13 games, setting a program record for most 100-point games in a season, besting last year's team's record of five 100-point games.

• A program-record eight Sooners scored in double figures in the win for just the second time in program history, matching a group of eight in 2007 against Central Arkansas. Oklahoma also matched a Baranczyk-era high with 33 assists, set a new Baranczyk-era record with 12 blocks and totaled 21 steals, the second-most under the fifth-year head coach.

• Sophomore guard Zya Vann set a career high with 21 points and recorded her first career double-double with 10 rebounds. She added six steals and became just the fourth High Major player this season to post a game with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, joining Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame, Madison Booker of Texas and Mikayla Blakes of Vanderbilt. The Edmond, Okla., native also posted a career-high three blocks, becoming the first player nationally this season, and first High Major player in a decade, to record 21 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three blocks against a Division I opponent.

• Freshman guard Aaliyah Chavez posted her fifth 20-point game of the season, scoring 20 points on 8 of 18 shooting, and leads all true freshman in 20-point games and points per game (18.9 PPG). She added career highs with seven assists and five steals along with four rebounds, becoming the first High Major freshman to post 20 points, seven assists and five steals in a game this year.

Raegan Beers recorded her 55th career double-double, which leads the NCAA, and her 10th of the season, also an NCAA best. She finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, a career-high five assists and season-high three blocks.

• Five other Sooners reached double figures: Sahara Williams with 16 points, Keziah Lofton with 15, Caya Smith with 14, Brooklyn Stewart with 11 and Emma Tolan with 10, all career highs sans Williams. Five different Sooners setting career highs in points marks a program record in a non-season-opening game.

• The victory marked Oklahoma's 950th win as a program.
