NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 8 Oklahoma baseball team defeated New Mexico, 8-3, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The win was the Sooners seventh straight since their loss April 30 at Texas.
The Sooners improved to 37-13 while New Mexico dropped to 16-34.
With the help of Cameron Seitzer's two RBIs, the Sooners scored six runs in the first two frames and never looked back.Seitzer, Chris Ellison and Max White all finished with two hits to lead the OU offense.
Pitcher Burch Smith improved to 9-3 and recorded six strikeouts in six innings for the Sooners. Jake McCasland only lasted 1.2 innings for the Lobos and gave up six runs to drop to 2-6.
Starting on the mound for the second game will be left-hander Jordan John (3-0) for the Sooners and left-hander Sam Wilson (2-2) for the Lobos. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after game one concludes.
