NORMAN, Okla. – Senior captain Elliott Blair made the most of his first start of the season during Senior Day with two hits and two RBI on Sunday in No. 8 Oklahoma's 6-2 win over New Mexico.

The win was the Sooners' ninth straight and upped their overall record to 39-13. The four-game sweep dropped the Lobos to 16-36 on the season and 1-12 all-time against Oklahoma.

Blair was one of seven seniors to see time on Sunday and he singled in OU's first run to tie the game at one apiece in the bottom of the second inning. He later added his second career triple in the fourth as OU pulled away for the victory.

"We had four seniors in the lineup that all performed really well,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “I was really happy for Elliot Blair. He had a big day and we needed it. He had some big hits early on. He's a guy who's trained hard. He's worked hard. He's one of our captains.

"We don't put guys out there just to put them out there. We feel like they can secure victory; that's why they're in the lineup.”

Despite falling behind for the first time in the series, OU battled back and cruised to the victory thanks to timely hitting and another solid start on the mound.

Starting pitcher Dillon Overton collected his eighth win of the season, giving up two runs and striking out five Lobo batters in his six innings of work. Overton's solid outing marked the eighth straight time a Sooner starter lasted at least five innings.

In the third, Tyler Ogle gave the Sooners a 2-1 lead with a base knock up the middle and Blair came back in the fourth to give OU a 3-1 lead with his second career triple.

Ogle led the Sooners with three RBIs in the Sooner win. The catcher hit a two-run opposite-field home run in the fifth, his team-leading ninth homer of the season.  Ogle, Blair and senior Cale Ellis all had two hits apiece to lead the Sooner offense that collected 10 hits on the afternoon.

The Sooner bullpen saw dominant performance by a trio of senior pitchers. Anthony Collazo, Tyson Seng and Ryan Duke each tossed a scoreless inning to wrap up the win for Overton.

New Mexico pitcher Richard Olson (3-6) surrendered five OU runs on seven hits in his five innings on the hill.

“I think the way we're approaching the game has a feel for the way we were playing early in the year,” added Golloway when asked if the Sooners were playing the best baseball of the season. “More than anything, it's a confidence factor. I think we're playing with an awful lot of confidence. That's what you hope to be doing this time of year.”

OU concludes the 2011 regular season next week with a three-game Big 12 series at Baylor. The series opener is slated for Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Waco, Texas. Friday's game is also set for 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's finale is slated for 3 p.m.
