NORMAN, Okla. -- The 11th-ranked Oklahoma baseball team fell to Dallas Baptist, 3-2, on Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Sooners dropped to 26-11 while DBU improved to 23-12 with another quality midweek victory. The Patriots have put together a string of impressive wins this season over traditional baseball powerhouses TCU, Rice and Oklahoma State in midweek games.
Oklahoma outhit DBU, 10-6, including a game-high three base hits from Ricky Eisenberg, but the Sooners stranded eight base runners on the evening, including runners at second and third in the second inning and a bases loaded situation in the fourth frame.
"We had guys on, we really hurt ourselves early in the game," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.
Dallas Baptist took the lead with a three-run third inning off of Sooner starter Kindle Ladd. The freshman lasted 4.2 innings in his first career start, striking out four DBU batters and surrendering three earned runs.
DBU's Jason Krizan delivered the decisive blow with a two-run double down the right-field line in the third inning.
The Patriots were scoreless for the remainder of the game and held to just two hits. Reliever Anthony Collazo pitched a career-high 3.2 innings and struck out four, giving up only two hits. Also out of the bullpen, Tyson Seng faced two batters in the ninth and kept the game within striking distance with a strikeout and a fly ball to center field.
"We pitched well, we just didn't swing the bat tonight," added Golloway. "We should be able to hit the guy (DBU starter Brandon Williamson) and we didn't do it."
On offense, the Sooners scored tacked their first run on the board when Tyler Ogle scored off of a wild pitch by Williamson in the fourth inning. Eric Ross crossed the plate in the fifth off of a sacrifice fly by Garrett Buechele.
Williamson improved to 7-1 after tossing 121 pitches across seven innings of work, which included five strikeouts and one walk.
Besides Eisenberg, who extended his career-high hitting streak to eight games, Max White and Chris Ellison had two hits apiece.
The Sooners came into tonight's matchup with six-straight wins over the Patriots and a 21-2 all-time series advantage. OU hadn't lost to DBU since 2006, a game that was also played in Norman.
Oklahoma has a quick turnaround, facing Bacone Wednesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The 6:30 p.m. matchup marks Fan Appreciation Day with free admission to all fans.
