Softball Well Represented at World Cup Group Stage in OKC

NORMAN — Oklahoma Softball is well represented with the USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's Softball World Cup Group C Stage Event at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Okla., Saturday, Sept. 12 through Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Team USA just completed a six-day training camp between Love's Field and Devon Park in preparation for the event. Sooners, Alyssa Brito, Jayda Coleman, Gabbie Garcia, Tiare Jennings, Kelly Maxwell, Keilani Ricketts and Kendall Wells are members of the WNT Athlete Pool, while Sydney Romero was a practice player.
OU leads all collegiate programs with four alums on the WBSC World Cup Group Stage roster. Garcia, Wells and Ricketts are on the US Women's Elite Team. The team is led by head coach Patty Gasso, with Jennifer Rocha and JT Gasso also on staff.
Team USA will compete against five international opponents over the five days in Oklahoma City, playing one game apiece against Mexico, Brazil, Netherlands, New Zealand and China before the playoff round Sept. 16. The top two teams from the group will advance to the WBSC Women's World Cup Finals in Redcliffe, Australia.
