NORMAN — Oklahoma junior Kennedy Stringfellow was named SEC Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, following his standout performance at the John Jacobs Invitational. He shares the honor with Georgia high jumper Kimani Jack.
The Mississippi State transfer delivered a dominant showing in front of the home crowd, winning the men's long jump with a mark of 8.07m (26'5.75") (+1.7). The jump ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this outdoor season and No. 2 in Oklahoma outdoor program history.
In addition to his long jump victory, Stringfellow also claimed the men's 200 meters title with a time of 21.15 and ran the anchor leg on Oklahoma's first-place 4x100-meter relay team.
The honor marks Stringfellow's second SEC Athlete of the Week recognition this year after earning the award on Jan. 20. At that meet, he broke the Oklahoma indoor school record in the long jump with a mark of 8.29m (27'2.50"), which stood as the top mark in the NCAA for the entirety of the indoor season.
Stringfellow and the Sooners return to action this week, splitting competition between the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
