Six Sooners Earn Eight WCGA All-America Honors

NORMAN — Six members of the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team combined to secure eight regular season All-America honors from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).

Freshmen Mackenzie Estep and Ella Murphy, sophomores Elle Mueller and Addison Fatta, junior Keira Wells and senior Faith Torrez all received recognition from the association.

Regular season All-America honors are based on an individual's final national qualifying score (NQS) prior to regional competition. First team honorees are ranked 1-8 nationally, and second team designees are ranked 9-16.

The Sooners had a pair of athletes recognized on multiple events, and four athletes recognized on vault.

Fatta earned first team recognition in the all-around and on vault, where she finished second in the country on the apparatus. She ended the regular season ranked No. 4 in the all-around.

Estep earned two honors in her first season, notching first-team on vault and second team on floor. The freshman ended the regular season ranked No. 4 on vault and No. 11 on floor.

Mueller and Wells also received recognition on vault. Wells was named to the first team on vault after finishing the season as the No. 5 ranked athlete on the event, while Mueller received second team honors with her No. 14 ranking on the event to end the season.

Torrez received recognition on beam, where she finished No. 3 in the country on the event. This is her third year earning honors on beam.

Murphy picked up her first regular-season honor with a first team recognition on beam, where she finished No. 8 in the country.

The Sooners will travel to Lexington, Ky., April 2-5 for the NCAA Lexington Regional. The No. 1 overall seed, OU will face No. 16 Kentucky, Ohio State and the winner of Central Michigan/Rutgers in the second round on Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
